Bulgarian Adoption Process
Bulgaria's adoption process is renowned for its stability and commitment to the best interests of the child. At World Links, we act as your dedicated advocate, ensuring every document is precise and every step brings you closer to your child.
A Path Defined by Care
Our 8-step roadmap is designed to provide clarity and peace of mind as you move through the Bulgarian legal and social systems.
Step 1: Start the Conversation
Every journey begins with a conversation. This is your chance to get to know us, ask questions, and share what you’re hoping for. We’ll walk you through the basics and help you take the first step forward.
Step 2: Complete Your Home Study
A home study is required for every adoption. It must be completed by a Hague-accredited agency. If you live in Pennsylvania, we can complete it for you. If you are out of state, we will connect you with trusted providers. This step takes time and preparation, and we will guide you through it.
Step 3: Prepare Your Documents
Along with your home study, you will need to gather additional documents. We will provide a clear list and support you through each requirement so nothing gets missed.
Step 4: Submit Your Dossier in Bulgaria
Once your documents are reviewed and compiled, we send your dossier to our partners in Bulgaria. Your case is then registered with the Ministry of Justice, and your name is entered into the official adoption registry.
Step 5: Wait for a Referral
The Ministry of Justice reviews your file and matches children with families based on need. Referrals are not issued in the order applications are received. Priority is given to children with higher needs, which can affect wait times. This stage can take time, and we will stay in contact with you throughout.
Step 6: Accept Your Referral and Meet Your Child
When you receive a referral, you will review the child’s information and decide whether to accept. If you accept, your first trip to Bulgaria is scheduled. You will meet your child and begin building your connection. During this stage, you will also file the I-800 with U.S. authorities to receive provisional approval.
Step 7: Court Process in Bulgaria
Your case moves to the Bulgarian court system. You are not required to attend. Our Bulgarian partners represent you and ensure all legal requirements are met while keeping you informed.
Step 8: Bring Your Child Home
You will travel to Bulgaria for your final trip. This includes meeting your child again, completing required appointments, and securing a U.S. visa through the Embassy. Once everything is finalized, you return home together as a family.
