Kyrgyz Adoption Travel

The Three-Trip Process

Kyrgyz Republic has a three-trip model designed to prioritize the child's adjustment and the family's bonding experience. Each visit serves a distinct, vital purpose in your story.

Trip 1: Bonding

11 to 12 days in Kyrgyz Republic

  1. Arrival in Bishkek

You arrive in Bishkek, where our team meets you at the airport and welcomes you. We arrange your transportation and help you settle into your accommodations so you can rest and prepare for the days ahead.

  2. Go to the Orphanage

You will meet your child and their caregivers for the first time. We will help you prepare for this moment, and a translator will be with you throughout the visit. You will receive important information about your child, and we encourage you to take notes and stay in close contact with your caseworker as you move through each step.

  3. Bonding Period

You will spend about 10 days visiting with your child, building connection through daily time together. Our coordinator will make sure you arrive on time for each visit. The schedule is set by your child’s caregivers and will need to be followed.

  4. Adoption Commitment

At the end of your bonding visits, you may sign the commitment paperwork to move forward with your adoption and continue the process toward bringing your child home.

  5. Return to the United States

You will travel home and begin preparing for the next steps as you move closer to bringing your child home.

Trip 2: Adoption Hearing

5 to 7 days in the Kyrgyz Republic

  1. Arrival in Bishkek

This trip is focused on your Adoption Court Hearing. We'll coordinate your arrival in Bishkek a couple of days before the Court Hearing, making sure you have time to rest and be prepared.

  2. Attending the Court Hearing

Your adoption hearing will be attended by Kyrgyz officials from administrative and judicial branches. A World Links representative will be there to assist you, and we will arrange for a translator. Your caseworker will review what to expect at your hearing.

  3. Saying hello to your child

You may have an opportunity to see your child again during this trip. These moments can be brief, but they help maintain your connection as you move closer to becoming a family.

  4. Return to the United States

After your hearing, you will travel home and prepare for your final trip.

Trip 3: Pick-Up Trip

5 to 10 days in the Kyrgyz Republic

  1. Arrival in Bishkek and Picking up your kid

This is the moment you’ve been waiting for. You will pick up your child, and from this point on, you are together as a family. A few final steps take place during this trip:

  2. Legal paperwork

Complete final paperwork and receive your child’s new birth certificate and passport.

  3. Final Health Check

A comprehensive medical screening by embassy-approved physicians to ensure your child is ready for their journey home.

  4. Embassy Appointments

Attend the required visa appointment at the U.S. Embassy in Bishkek. We coordinate logistics and translation for this step. Once your child’s immigrant visa is issued, you will travel home together.

  5. Travel Home

You will return home together, beginning your life as a family.

Moving Closer to Home

Between Trip 1 and Trip 2There is typically a 5 to 6 month waiting period as important steps are completed:

  • Receive provisional approval for your child’s immigration to the United States
  • Receive final approvals from both U.S. and Kyrgyz authorities before the court hearing
  • Submit your case for scheduling with the Kyrgyz court system
  • Prepare your home and family for your child’s arrival, with support and resources from your caseworker
